Bumpers Oast is a bespoke residential property set within the Kent countryside, designed by award-winning architects ACME. Inspired by the traditional Kentish oast houses once used for drying hops, the property reimagines the historic agricultural form through contemporary architecture and sustainable building methods, creating a distinctive family home that has featured in Elle Decor, Architectural Digest and Grand Designs.
The architectural design consists of five interconnected circular towers, each topped with a distinctive conical roof. Constructed using a highly insulated timber-frame system, the building incorporates complex curved walls and intricate roof structures, requiring exceptional precision and skilled craftsmanship throughout construction. Externally, the towers are clad in traditional Kent-style tiles in six carefully selected shades, transitioning from deep red at the base through warm orange tones to blue towards the roof peaks.
The installation required specialist detailing and traditional tiling techniques to achieve the seamless transition between the curved walls and tapered roof structures.
Internally, the property features a striking triple-height central living space, connecting the surrounding towers and opening out towards the orchard. The circular rooms incorporate bespoke curved joinery, plywood-lined walls and carefully designed furniture to maximise the available space while maintaining the building's distinctive architectural character. The arrangement provides a combination of open-plan living areas and private accommodation across multiple levels
