Rural Faversham is a bespoke four-bedroom residential property with a separate guest annexe, gym and carport, set within the historic walled orchard of Mount Ephraim Estate in Kent. Designed by Hawkes Architecture under Paragraph 80 planning policy, the project combines Rubner's prefabricated timber construction system with contemporary architectural design and the careful preservation of the site's Edwardian heritage.
The architectural design features a distinctive folded metal roof and saw-toothed façade, following the natural slope of the landscape while maximising views across the surrounding orchard. Externally, a carefully selected combination of traditional red brickwork, brick-coloured cladding and metal roofing complements the existing garden walls, creating a strong connection between the historic structures and the contemporary building.
A key element of the project is the sensitive restoration of the historic Edwardian garden wall, retaining original architectural features including glazed brick detailing and timber doorways. The existing brick potting shed is also incorporated into the development, preserving the character of the original estate.
